Item

Title

Soba's 2 wives

Description

The photograph shows two women sitting together, facing the camera and smiling. Both women wear a series of plaited raffia and bead necklaces. The older women's necklaces include a large Omba(conus shell). The women are likely to be two of Tchiliwandele's three wives. Square black and white photograph taken on a Rolliflex camera by Diana Powell-Cotton while staying with Soba Tchiliwandele in present day Huila Province.
Listed only as the Soba's 2 wives we do not know the names of these women. They are likely to be Tchiliwandeles wives as the sisters were staying with him when this photo was taken (30 May to 2 June 1937).
