Description
An Egyptian breach-loading carbine, Remington 1874, pattern. Steel barrel with a wooden stock. "R" is engraved on the left hand side above trigger and again on back of the barrel. There is a steel trigger flip back mechanism and sight. A small crown is engraved on left hand side of the barrel on the steel gap, connecting the barrel to the wooden stock. "M" is engraved on the left hand side of the wooden stock toward the back and the inscription on the metal plate on top of the wooden stock reads "REMINGTONS ILION N.Y U.S.A PATD" D MAY 7 JUNE 11 NOV12 DEC 24 DEC 31 1872 SEP 73". (Some engraving is unreadable). The weapon was apparently taken from the battlefield of Tel-el-Kebir, September 1882. [DS 11/11/2020]
